Early Childhood
Traditional and Montessori Preschool (3- and 4-year-olds):
- singing games, steady beat activities, theatrical story telling
Traditional and Montessori Kindergarten:
- solo and group singing
- exploration with non-pitched percussion intruments
- Valentine Tea performance
Primary (Grades 1-3)
Grades 1 & 2
- classroom mallet exploration
- reading music of various layers and textures
- combined Christmas program
Grade 3
- utilizing more advanced mallet instrumentation
- part-singing and ear training
- begin recorder training
- spring music showcase
- optional extracurricular handchime choir
Intermediate (Grades 4-6)
Grades 4, 5 & 6
- advanced mallet work and music reading
- music history and learning different styles of music
- music composition: Improvisation, Handwritten and Finale Music Writing Software
- mini-musical
- beginning of music elective classes (band or choir) in addition to weekly General Music
- optional extracurricular handchime choir
Junior High (Grades 7-8)
Grade 7
In addition to weekly General Music, students choose between the following music electives:
- Choir
- Band (including percussion)
Grade 8
During the first and third trimesters, eighth graders choose between taking choir or band as a Music elective. The second trimester revolves around the musical, for which students have the option of being in the cast or artistic design team.
